Campus life can be isolating for an undergraduate student.
There is no doubt that embracing extracurricular activities, whether they be volunteering, coming out to special events, or joining a club, can make all the difference. Community matters.
For my part, I support my students outside of the classroom by serving as the faculty sponsor of two clubs: the Kwantlen English Commons and the Kwantlen Film Club. Both associations host regular events for students with a shared interest in writing, literature, and cinema.
Promoting the English Department at campus events is another way I connect with the student body. At the annual Open House, the Counsellors' Conference, Clubs Day, and New Student Orientations, I am proud to promote the English program by discussing it with students and their advocates.
